DIPLOMA IN FASHION DESIGN AND CLOTHING TECHNOLOGY (FDCT)

Programme Overview:

The two-year undergraduate programme in Fashion Design & Clothing Technology (FDCT) will provide you with a thorough knowledge and understanding of clothing product development. This intensive technical and design curriculum will train practical people for the Bangladesh Clothing Export Industry.

This qualification will create a placement for you in the industry in the role of designer and product development with the ability to provide support and execute instructions pertaining to buyer's or merchandiser's directions/brief, designing of range/collections, illustration and presentation of concepts, sampling and manufacture. It will also enable you to operate independent businesses in fashion designing/export industry.

The programme is divided into four semesters, each of 18 weeks. The first three semesters foster in you the knowledge and application from across eight key areas: design, illustration, pattern-making, grading, draping, construction, fashion, textiles. You will also develop communications and computing skills as well as be exposed to merchandising and quality management. In the final semester, you will acquire industry exposure through internship as well as execute a design collection.

The Industry internship exposes you to the actual atmosphere, pace and discipline of professional practice and the working culture of the apparel industry. This internship helps you to see the link and divergence between classroom learning and a professional industry situation.

After completing your internship, you will return to the Institute and work on your final Design Project, for which you will have to apply the technical and creative inputs that you have received in the previous semesters for finding solutions to technical/commercial design gap areas. This final project undertaken by you will be industry-based and market-focused, and will culminate in a fashion show which will be held after the completion of the course.
