Programme Overview

The influx of multinational brands in the Asian markets has influenced product development and production capacities of the knitwear sectors to a large extent. The industry has augmented production capacities and invested in producing specially engineered fabrics to cater to international brands in casual & sports wear knits segment. This has resulted in a high demand for trained knitwear professional to manage highly mechanized operations and consistently meet stringent quality requirements of international buyers. The pressure to meet quality requirements at competitive, price is tremendous. The Knitwear Design & Merchandising programme will provide you an in-depth understanding of the flat knits, circular knits, fully fashioned & computerised knitting. This one year of intensive training in Knitwear Design & Merchandising programme will equip and prepare you to become a knitwear design professional able to conceive design ideas, perform sampling, develop and implement a final product as per the buyer's need and international trends. You will emerge as a professional sensitive to the fast changing design environment and to adapt to new technologies. The course will allow you to understand practical aspects and functioning of the knitwear industry understand design application commercially, acquire communication skills, time management and leadership qualities so as to work professionally.

Programme Structure

The year-long duration is broken into three terms. During the first three terms, each of twelve weeks duration, you will acquire knowledge and learn application in eight areas: textiles, knitting technology, design, production, fashion, computers, communications and quality. In the final terms lasting ten weeks, you will undergo industry internship for four weeks and follow up with a project for six weeks.

In Term One, you will be introduced to both design and technical subjects. It will emphasize on the importance of knit structure, machine skills, pattern making & construction, textiles, elements of design, merchandising and computer skills. You will develop design sensitivity and gain skills to start formulating design ideas and appreciate designs individually.

Term two aims to promote technical expertise, further honing design skills and understanding business environment. You will be provided inputs in knitting technology, pattern making & construction, textiles (wet processing), illustration and history of fashion. You will be introduced to various commercial aspects of the knitwear industry. Will also be encouraged to learn and work independently and also interact with the industry independently for projects. Amature approach and independent working will give you an insight to there al work environment. While you will continue with inputs in business management subjects, quality assurance, costing & pricing, merchandising & production methods in the Term three, you will also undertake a four week industrial internship. Internship will provide you with hands on and practical work experience and an to consolidate and practice your class room. In the last leg of the term three, you will focus self-study under tutorial guidance, for an independent culture and take-up a Product Development will culminate finally in a fashion show.
