FOREWORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN
The termination of agreement of Textile and Clothing and the onset of the quota free regime has opened tremendous opportunities for the Bangladesh garment and textile industry. Bangladesh government has already announced the apparel and industry as the thrust sector. It has been providing sops to support the growth of the sector through progressive policies. However the industry needs to make relentless efforts to infuse competition and vibrancy in the sector. In order to harness the potential, it needs to move out of the cut, sew and trim mode and enhance product capabilities for the international markets. All this can only be achieved with aptly trained manpower with specialized skill sets in merchandising, fashion marketing, fashion design, among others. It's time for the industry to develop indigenous human strength in order to achieve the growth potential. Unless, industry imparts local value addition, moving up the global supply chain will be difficult.
